"The internet has become a significant social laboratory of experimenting with the constructions and reconstructions of self that characterize postmodern life. Are they experienced as an expanded self or as a separate from the self?" - Shery Turkle (Life on the Screen).

The postmodern self suggest, that their is no 'deep down' to idenitity: thanks to the internet and the media, we can adopt so many different images and personae that their may not be a true self that resides beneath them all. No matter how deep you go, another surface is all you get.
